Warhol Out West Review

Recently I ventured to the Bellagio Hotel and Casino, not for dreams of hitting the jackpot; but to strike it rich full of culture to view the Warhol Out West exhibit. A special added perk to my visit was free entry to the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art in recognition of Museum Day. I was extremely excited to see Andy Warhol's works up close and personal. the exhibit contained various mediums of Warhol's art including sculpture, film, photography, and interactive art. Images that left an impression on me were the 3D sculptural boxes of "Mott's Apple Juice," also the silver clouds which danced about an enclosed room with the help of fans placed at the corners of the room. The encased silver balloons shaped like pillows bounced from the floor to the ceiling in a random motion. People looked into the room; I got a chance to boldly walk into the room and dance with the pillows!

Another room which featured a short film by Andy Warhol, featuring four minute shorts of friends either just staring into the camera lens or even just merely sitting on a couch. I didn't watch the entire piece, it was too"artsy" for me. I chuckled to myself as some did sit and watch the entire film as if they were viewing a major motion picture. I satched my way over to view other memorable pieces like the wall which had a row of "Polaroids" of Grace Jones, Blondie, Jane Fonda, Truman Capote, and Sylvester Stallone to name a few.  These celebrities photos were taken at earlier years of their fame. The photos of the celebrities reminded me of mugshots or poses for some type of Calvin Klein advert as their image popped out from a stark white background. In keeping with a "western" theme were images of Geronimo, John Wayne, the Buffalo Nickel, and the" Cowboy and Indian" series of screen prints on canvas.

Other classic pieces were on display such as the "Campbell Soup Cans",  images of Marilyn Monroe, Mona Lisa, and Elizabeth Taylor. I also liked Warhol's works with his use of diamond dust in such works as Georgia O"Keefe with Juan Hamilton, I so wanted to touch the canvas! I also can fail to mention the countless self portraits of Andy Warhol himself.
Andy Warhol made people, places, and things pop out on canvas, sculpture, and film to let his audience see that everything and everyone is a work of art and deserves their fifteen minutes of fame. It makes wonder what Andy Warhol would have thought about social media.

Warhol Out West is viewable at the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art until October 27,2013.

Fashion Review of Oscar Red Carpet Options 2013

It is the height of the red carpet fashion watch with the Oscars award show. I just can't  seem to understand why some celebrities continue to make bad choices and show up in tacky garments. I mean who is in their fashion circle? It is such a downer to see one of your favorite stars show up in something which is just appalling? For instance, what was Anne Hathaway thinking with her grape cherries  aimed right through her Prada gown? Girl Please! You should've nip tucked them for this occasion!

Amanda Seyfried looked like the mother of the bride in her Alexander McQueen selection! Why you make us cry?! Next time dress your age.In this blog post,  I will display a fashion horror before my picks for best dressed to get the misery out of mind. This leads to my utmost shudder, disappointingly dressed Jennifer Aniston,  who shows up in a Valentino gown which looks like she was swathed in  sheets she and Justin slept on the night before. It was just ill-fitting, unflattering and made me think she didn't have a bottle of Smart water before she made this choice.  She was my worst choice pick. Redrum!

I think I saw more disappointments than raves. I can't bear to list them all or show their  picks, like Jennifer Garner, another messy mess. Nice and clean frontal view and when she turns to walk, it looks like she passed gas full of ruffles. Who wants to sit on all those ruffles shooting out their back and bum for the evening?! I am too distraught to show her photo.

Okay enough of my comedy, and now for the crowd pleasers ...

Veterans Day Fashions- Military Inspired Wear

Remembering Veteran's Day to all those who fought and protected our land shores during past and present times.

Since we are recognizing our veterans, I decided to run a post on military inspired fashions. For military wear never goes out of style, one can always find a piece to add to their wardrobe no matter the season. I was curious as to why military wear never seems to go out of style, is it because we are always involved in a war in some part of the world, or does it represent empowerment in wearing something inspired by the military.

However the case may be, remember those who sacrifice themselves to make our country a safer place to live. In the meantime, I continue to pray for peace in world.

Have Faith! Religion Inspired Fashion

And so it is Sunday...
The calmness of the day is soothing.
Reflective.
My religious foundation brings about guilt that I should attend mass frequently.

Madonna

This posting is related to religion + fashion.
And what does it equate to.
Not only how they coexist in a functional way,
but what is the symbolism in relation to style?
Is it an exhibition of our religious beliefs? Or an expression of a cool fashion statement?

Versace

Most artists, rockers, and celebrities wear a cross embellished on their clothing,"blinged" out crucifixes around their necks, or tattooed on their body.
What does this represent?
Are they Catholic? Or on a spiritual journey?  Protection?
Does it somehow contain the real meaning of the cross to the designer + consumer?

Jennifer Lopez

I don't think the "marriage" of religion + fashion is offensive.
I am curious that this spiritual symbol never goes out of style in fashion inspiration/ industry.
Thus getting more popular through the generations.
I think that wearing a cross has different meaning according to the wearer.
Hopefully, it is a positive message.

Crucifix Footwear

I don't over analyze or judge.
I have questions that won't always get answered.
Seeking, thinking, and creating patterns of thought.
Religion + Fashion = Faith-filled style?

Linda Farrow Crucifix Sunglasses

I appreciate freedom of religion and freedom of expression.
No matter your beliefs,
as George Michael sang in his popular hit, ...
You gotta have Faith.

Cape Crusade- Capes for Fall 2012

Who could forget when Gwyneth Paltrow became the silent superhero of the red  carpet in her white Tom Ford cape dress for the Oscars® ceremony earlier this year?
This must have item, the cape, will transform you into a stylish superhero this fall 2012.
Capes were originally worn in medieval times by knights, nobles and farmers to distingush their social class. Capes are not just for eveningwear as they have been so popular in the past; they are now ever so befitting for daywear. Style tip for wearing a cape, it is best to wear clothing that is fitted underneath. Wearing baggy, loose fitting clothing may make you look like the great pumpkin!
Capes are cyclical in fashion as are other items; hence, the magic behind this garment is that it is flattering on all figures, can hide figure flaws, and presents a powerful cover against the fall weather elements. Awaken your fashion sense, be a modern Wonder Woman and don a cape this fall.
